Experiences with horses

Do you want your riding to be a contribution to your horse's wellbeing?

Then you've come to the right place here!

My work and my passion is to help horse and rider develop together in a constructive, harmonious  way. The biomechanics of how your seat and movements influence your horse is my guideline. With my knowledge and experience  I help you find the awareness and skills you need.

* More fulfillment -> ride with a big smile
* Healthier movement patterns -> less injuries
* Better performance -> stand out and make your dreams come true

It's never too late to work on the basics of all basics.
"The way you sit is the way your horse moves." That's why working on your seat, balance and movements is beneficial for every rider.

I'm looking forward to help you improving your skills and awareness. My students range from (anxious) beginners to Olympic riders. They have one common goal: they want to become a better rider for their horses. If you want this too, you're always welcome, regardless of your experience, discipline, or ambitions.

A better seat not only increases your confidence. A good seat also leads to more beautiful movements, better communication, and greater harmony and expression. Aids can even become completely invisible. That's why also topsport riders want to learn from me. Especially at the highest level, the details of your seat make the difference between winning and losing. Not only in dressage, but also to be able to ride the fastest jump-off, for example.
In other words: "Small changes make big differences." You will experience the truth of this phrase many times when you start practising. And please be carefull; this can even lead to  a biomechanics freak addiction... :)

Horsing with a smile (Gepaard met een lach)

Nowadays, people are saying that a (sport) horse should be a 'happy athlete'. Of course I agree on that. But... I want two happy athletes!

Yes, horse riding is a sport. Riders who are aware of this and treat themselves as an athlete, make happy horses. And happy horses make happy riders.
To see the horses change while working on the awareness and skills of the riders, is what's giving me the fulfillment of my work time after time, horse after horse. Tension and resistance change to freedom of movement and joy. The horses' movements become more balanced, more fluent and more beautifull, making it easier for the rider to sit. Then the magical harmony between horse and rider happens. And when that smile appears on the rider's face... Then you know how the name of my company came about!

About me

I'm Roos Dyson, founder of "Gepaard met een lach" (horsing with a smile) in 2009. My passion for horses started at a very young age. No idea where it came from though...
After graduating from high school, I completed the fulltime 4-year equestrian education in Deurne in 2001. I have been working fulltime with horses ever since. I have working experience as a groom, horse vet assistent, rider and instructor in several different countries.

I competed in show jumping up to 1.10 level, educating many young horses from starting under saddle untill their first jumping courses. At the moment I focus mainly on dressage. My first dressage horse was my chestnut mare Romy (from Jazz), who I trained from first time under saddle up to and including Prix St Georges level. But I also like to say it was her educating me, in stead of vice versa :).
My second dressage horse is Variety, sired by Rubiquil. At the age of 21 we were still competing at Inter 1 level. Variety also learnt me the feeling of the Grand Prix exercises.

In 2009 I completed the life changing education of Akasha College (Anne Muller), focusing on anatomy, biomechanics, posture, seat and balance. In addition to this, I finished several more equestrian educations and courses. I have also trained with different toptrainers. I'm always hungry for more knowledge and I take every opportunity to develop myself as a rider and teacher. As it is not only my job, but also my absolute passion. That's why I'm always 'horsing with a smile' :).

Thank you for visiting my website!

When I was 16, I gave my first riding lessons. That was in 1995. Helping horses and making people happy by teaching riders how to ride better has given me immense satisfaction ever since. I'm very dedicated to make the equestrian sport more beautiful and better for our horses. That's why I want to obtain and spread as much awareness and knowledge as possible.

My opinion is that riding doesn't need to be forbidden for wellfare reasons. But I want our horses to benefit from our sport, instead of suffering from it. Riding should be a contribution to both mental and physical wellbeing for our horses.
No parasitism, but a beautiful symbiosis between humans and animals. With the right mindset, knowledge, and skills, this is possible! And every person who educates themselves contributes to a better world for our beloved horses. That's why I'm so glad you're visiting my website.
Thank you!

To show you the beauty of my work, I have something for you!

In this video you can watch the full clinic I gave at Horse Event 2023, together with Olympic dressage rider Imke Schellekens-Bartels. You'll see a big transformation in just half an hour. Not only did Imke's own back feel better immediately, but her horse also gave her a much better feeling. And the audience saw it too, regarding to their spontaneously applause. A great example of how powerful improvements in your seat can be, even for Olympic riders!
