My name is Roos Dyson
In 2009 I founded 'Horsing with a smile'
I live in Essen, Belgium, just across the border from Roosendaal. From that region I give private lessons to riders who follow my course 'Posture, Balance and Effect'. I also travel all over the Netherlands and Belgium to give clinics. And sometimes I drive a little further away than the Netherlands or Belgium, or I get on a plane to spread my knowledge.
I started riding at the local riding school when I was 8 years old, after I became 'friends' with a pony in our street as a very young girl. When I was 14 years old I (finally...) had enough money for my own pony. My parents don't have a background in horse owning. After graduating from high school, my parents and my school had given up trying to convince me not to go to Deurne. In Deurne I completed the 4-year course Equestrian Sports (2001). During and after this training I gained experience as a groom, rider of (young) horses and instructor. In addition, I have worked for more than 4 years for an equine veterinarian who specializes in radiological imaging.
My goal is to help you with your seat
So that your horse can move easily and smoothly. This is how I help you and your horse(s).
My career
To date, I have competed with a large number of horses. Previously many young horses in jumping (up to L level), and in recent years in dressage.
My dressage career started with my Jazz mare Romy. I trained her myself (and she trained me...) from breaking in the saddle up to and including the Prix St Georges. She passed away in 2023 at the age of 25. At the moment I have two horses of my own. With Variety (by Rubiquil) I competed up to Inter 1 level. Variety competed at this level until she was 21 years old and, together with my two instructors, also taught me the tricks of the Grand Prix work. Now she is retired from competition.
In November 2020 I bought Mickey (by Fürstenball). With the experience I have gained thanks to Romy and Variety, my goal is to train her to become a good dressage horse. But Mickey also rekindled the jumping jitters in me, so who knows...
In February 2010 I completed another training: the training for Akasha Instructor. At the time, this was a new course, specially developed for qualified instructors. It is a supplement / specialization in the field of anatomy of rider and horse, posture, the seat and biomechanics, didactics and learning theory in horses. Every day I enjoy everything I have learned in this training.
My Passion
Why I got infected with the horse virus as a small child is actually not clear to me. I do know that I find being with horses is the most beautiful 'work' there is and that it gives me a lot of satisfaction. My emphasis in being with horses (and people!) is based on mutual respect. My aim is to always work as professionally as possible and I seize every opportunity to learn more. Thanks to the pleasure I have in working with horses, my work has always been paired with a smile."
